And what exactly is a wiki?

  • A wiki is a web site that can be  individually or collaboratively edited using just a web browser.
  • No special tools and no special skills are required.
  • You do not need to ftp to a web server or know any HTML

Using wikis in a math class

  • Use a wiki to have students share solutions to some even numbered problems.
  • Students can use a wiki to post progress on their projects. See Math for Teachers and Math Seminar web pages .
  •  Students in groups can create a collaborative web site using a wiki

Wikis for professors

  • Collaborate with colleagues on a web  site for a coordinated course
  • Work on a shared online article or book
  • Work on common exams and post comments without a lot of email attachments floating around (files can easily be uploaded)

Writing math in a wiki

  • Best way: 1.  While editing your page, click the  'Insert Plugin'  button at the top right of the editting toolbar

    2.  Hover over 'PBwiki Magic'  and select 'Equation'.  This will allow you to write equations using LaTeX codes.

    Formula
